Why This Matters
Ottawa’s EV Mandate — the Electric Vehicle Availability Standard — forces all new vehicles sold in Canada to be zero-emissions by 2035. The mandated EV sales targets are unrealistic, and unless there is a swift change, we’re driving toward economic catastrophe.
Our auto sector powers over 500,000 jobs and contributes billions to our national economy. The federal EV Mandate puts these jobs at risk. The regulation demands impossible EV sales targets without first addressing the key barriers to consumer adoption. Canada needs a smarter, more sustainable transition plan — one that protects Canadian families, workers, jobs, and paycheques.
What Needs to Happen
We’re calling on the government to scrap the EV Mandate before it drives Canada off course. Canada’s auto companies are investing billions of dollars to transition to electrification, but if we rush this transition Canadians will face higher costs, fewer choices, and lost jobs at a time when our economy can’t afford the hit.
We need a realistic plan that’s more reflective of our current economic landscape; a plan that protects Canadian auto workers, manufacturers, and consumers. Repealing the current EV Mandate isn’t about rejecting electrification — it’s a necessary action to ensure Canada’s future is both sustainable and prosperous.
